- Teaching 11.23.10
- Romans 3:23
- “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
- You cannot get to heaven by your own merit
- “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
- Romans 6:23
- “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- The solution out of this predicament is through Jesus Christ

- Revelation 3:20
- “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”
- He is knocking on the door of our hearts
- He wants us to know Him and He wants to know us
- He is not going to bulldoze his way to our heart
- He understands that we have free will
- It is ultimately up to us to accept His free gift
- “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”
- Roman 8:10
- “If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.”
- God gives us this new life
- You know what the Lord has done for you
- When you accept Jesus’ sacrifice, the Holy Spirit comes into you
- “If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.”
- Romans 8:5-6
- “For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,”
- Flesh vs. Spirit
- It is not based on what you do, it is based on attitude
- Flesh
- What the world can give you
- Still carrying around that destructive baggage from your past
- Spirit
- Focusing on Christ and others
- Being in a Body with others
- Help you grow
- “For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,”
- Romans 8:29
- “For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;”
- Conformed to the image of His son
- He wants us to grow to be more Christ-like
- We want to get to this point
- John 15:4
- “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.”
- I also remain in you
- The Spirit comes in our hearts
- Condition
- How people look at us
- How we look at ourselves
- Remain in Me
- We are in Christ
- Position
- How God looks at us
- These are 2 different view points
- I also remain in you
- “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.”
- Conformed to the image of His son
- “For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;”
- Romans 4:7-8
- “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED. BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT.”
- We are forgiven by the Lord
- “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED. BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT.”
- Romans 8:16
- “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,”
- One of our position truths is that we are God’s children
- “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,”
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
- “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”
- Another position truth, we are a new creation
- “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”
- Galatians 6:14
- “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
- Once again another position
- “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
- Ephesians 2:10
- “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
- We have all of these awesome things that are in our position in Jesus Christ
- “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
- Romans 8:13
- “for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”
- Putting to death these misdeeds
- Life coming out of death
- Galatians 2:20-21
- “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:10-12
- “Always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you.”
- Galatians 2:20-21
- The outer part has to die or be broken away
- We are breaking away from our sinful nature
- It is not an easy process
- “for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”
- Romans 8:18-22
- “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.”
- In your position you have this hope
- As a believer in Christ you have this opportunity to grow in Christ and love like Christ
- Have hope for the next life
- We are no longer concerned with how life is going to go
- It is just cool to rely on God
- It is freeing
- Our position in Christ is a glorious position
- We are like Jesus Christ
- This is amazing!!
- We go from slavery and corruption into freedom!
- This is an amazing transition
- “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.”
- 2 Corinthians 1:8-10
- “For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us,”
- Paul has been through way more suffering than any of us
- Why is God making Paul suffer so badly?
- He changes his point of view
- He sees that he is getting delivered
- Finally decided to depend on God
- This suffering is part of growing in the Lord
- Stop trying to take control of your life
- You need to realize that you need the Lord to help you
- You need to truly rely on the Lord for everything to fall into place
- “For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us,”
- Philippians 4:4-9
- “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
- Be anxious for nothing
- RELY ON THE LORD!!
- Philippians 4:11-13
- “Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
- The circumstances do not matter
- It did not matter if he was hungry or suffering
- He realizes his position in Christ
- The circumstances do not matter
- “Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
- Romans 8:31-39
- “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, ‘FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED.’ But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- This passage speaks for itself
- God takes death and turns it into life
- You cannot look at suffering and think it is not worth it
- “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? - This teaching is mostly for those who are already saved
- But if you are not saved then you should definitely look into having this amazing relationship with Christ
