I grew up in a fundamental Baptist church and eventually accepted Christ when I was 12. Although I accepted Christ, I didn’t end up walking with the Lord until I was a 22-year-old student at Biola University. I’d been studying at Biola University for a year and a half when I felt the Lord was really putting it on my heart to consider whether I wanted to take my relationship with Him serious or not.
I counted the costs and decided yes, I was going to devote my life to following Christ. Not long after making that decision, I married a man named Joel Hughes who also wanted to walk with the Lord. When we first got married, we had no idea what it meant to serve God. We decided to serve God by leading Sunday Schools and helping out with church bands. Yet we felt that serving that way wasn’t really significant.
After we found Xenos Columbus, Joel and I learned the importance of the “one another” passages in the Bible. We learned it’s not about us, but about leading others to the Lord. We wanted to help raise up people to God, helping them become future leaders in the church. I feel blessed by how God has transformed my character, and I am extremely grateful for all He’s done for me.
