Romans 12 Part 2 (Thomas)
- Teaching 1.11.11
- Romans 12:3-5
- “For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”
- Not to think more highly of himself
- First attempt to break our selfishness
- We should never think that we are better than others
- Because we are not better than anyone
- For the grace that was given to me
- The things that the Lord blessed me with
- There is a union between the members of the Body
- A spiritual bond
- This is a fact/statement
- Whether we like it or not
- Real cool, but real scary
- Whenever anyone messes up, it affects everyone else
- We are members of one another
- We need to help each other get over each other’s selfishness
- We need each other in the Body of Christ
- If you believe that Jesus Christ is your Savior and have accepted grace
- We need to take care of each other
- Not to think more highly of himself
- “For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”
- 1 Corinthians 12:12
- “For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.”
- He is talking about a real physical unity
- Liver, heart, lungs, limbs, head, stomach
- Sort of like the Body of Christ
- He is talking about a real physical unity
- “For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.”
- 1 Corinthians 12:13
- “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.”
- Talking about baptism
- Not a water baptism, but a spiritual baptism
- You become part of the Body of Christ
- The Body of Believers are God’s representation of Himself on earth
- Church?
- A building? Steeple?
- No!
- Talking about baptism
- “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.”
- Matthew 18:20
- “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
- Explain of people getting together in REAL church
- But not CHURCH, but FELLOWSHIP
- Fellowship in Greek means sharing
- What are we sharing?
- We are sharing our lives with each other!!!
- It just makes sense!!!
- We are sharing our lives with each other!!!
- What are we sharing?
- “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
- Jesus just wants to share His life with us
- He is not making us a slave or making us do anything
- He wants to share eternity with us
